FOCOLD is committed to enhancing the livelihoods of marginalized women, particularly those who are divorced or widowed, through sustainable beekeeping initiatives. To support this mission, FOCOLD has provided 100 modern beehives across three Traditional Authorities: 30 in Traditional Authority Lundu, 30 in Traditional Authority Makata, and 40 in Traditional Authority Kunthembwe.
By equipping women with beekeeping management skills, this initiative not only strengthens their economic stability but also improves their overall well-being. The women have undergone comprehensive training in beehive management, honey processing, packaging, and marketing, enabling them to produce and sell high-quality, well-branded honey.
To further ensure their success, FOCOLD has procured packaging bottles and protective gear to facilitate safe honey harvesting. With modern equipment, the women can confidently manage the entire process—from setting up beehives to harvesting honey—while minimizing risks associated with bee handling. This initiative has been widely appreciated by the community, fostering motivation and increasing visibility for the project.
FOCOLD extends its heartfelt appreciation to Maries-Schelein Verein for its invaluable support of 100 women across Ntocha, Khuchiri, and Chatembenuka villages. In demonstrating ownership of the project, the women are actively maintaining the beehives, recognizing this initiative as a crucial step toward strengthening their village savings and loan programs, thereby promoting financial independence.
